Their professionalism and collaborative approach makes them a valuable partner throughout.” – Abby Perry – A47 TM Manager
Project Overview
P&D delivered the installation and commissioning of 23 camera systems across the A47 Thickthorn junction, supporting a wider programme aimed at improving traffic flow, safety, and real-time network visibility. The scope included installation, alignment, and testing of roadside camera equipment to ensure full operational performance across this key strategic route.
The Challenge
P&D was commissioned by Core Highways, working in partnership with Skanska, to deliver camera infrastructure as part of a major National Highways improvement scheme at the A47 Thickthorn junction.
Operating within a live highway environment presented several challenges, including strict traffic management requirements, restricted access windows, and the need to coordinate seamlessly with multiple contractors. All works had to be delivered safely while minimising disruption to road users and ongoing construction activity.
The Solution
P&D deployed experienced engineers to install and commission 23 camera systems in line with project and National Highways standards. The solution delivers high-quality, reliable visual coverage of the junction, enabling effective traffic monitoring, incident detection, and enhanced decision-making for network operators.
Delivery & Execution
Works were planned around traffic management constraints and coordinated with Core Highways and Skanska to ensure seamless integration with the wider scheme. A safety-first, structured approach ensured efficient delivery and full compliance with required standards.
The Outcome
The project delivered a fully operational camera network that enhances visibility and monitoring capabilities across the A47 Thickthorn junction. All 23 cameras were installed safely, on programme, and in line with National Highways requirements, contributing to improved traffic management and overall network performance.
